- There are three parts: one for you, one for me, and one for us as a whole. The poetry tells the story of a person who falls in love with their best friend while simultaneously discovering who they really are. the coming to terms with being queer, both the experience and the realisation, as well as the acceptance that this may be her life. The fact that this collection of poetry may be read both as a story and as individual pieces is one of my favourite aspects of the book.
- My first time picking up a book in what feels like an incredibly long time, and I found this book by complete accident on TikTok. This book is for you if you have come out, if you are wanting to come out, or if you are terrified to come out. I’m thrilled that this was the book that got me interested in reading for pleasure.
- I finally gave in and purchased this book because Tiktok would not stop sending me videos explaining the poetry and the story behind the book. I could identify to this because it was about friends falling out of love with each other and then finding each other again. I annotated this for my girlfriend, and it was quite simple to do so because the topic was so relatable. It was decent, but not outstanding.
Summary
Through the art of poetry, the author aims to raise awareness and educate readers about love and acceptance of LGBT people. This book tells the story of both my coming out as homosexual and my falling in love with my best friend, both of which happened during the same time period. The remainder of this book has a vast number of overt and explicit sexual references that are scattered throughout. WARNING: Some of the material discussed in this book may be too intense or upsetting for some of the readers who choose to engage with it. The poems describe the story of a person who falls in love with their closest friend at the same time as they come to terms with who they truly are. One of the characteristics of the book that I enjoy the most is the fact that this collection of poetry can be read in two different ways: either as a story or as separate pieces.
