Condemned to Love Book Summary
Although I’m not often a fan of mafia romance books, I found that Condemned to Love successfully combined realistic depictions of mafia life with a seductive love story.
Ben and Sierra have undeniable chemistry. When they’re on the same page, they naturally pair up. In spite of her strength and autonomy, Sierra is able to balance Ben’s more aggressive instincts with her own softer side. Ben is, at his essence, an alpha guy. He is vicious, sinful, and a threat to society.
For me, reading Condemned to Love was like riding a roller coaster. I’ve already stated that mafia romances don’t interest me since the violence is too extreme and the protagonists are too lenient. Thankfully, Davis’s writing strikes the appropriate balance between violent and romantic themes. There’s something that happens at about the 20% mark that I almost never like. The tale lost me at that point, but I’m glad I persisted because what Davis does with it is what ultimately won me over and convinced me to give it four stars.
Also deserving of a four-star rating is the satisfying conclusion. Condemned to Love is full of oblique references to a larger plot by author Deborah Davis. If you pay close enough attention, you might figure it out. I couldn’t put the book down after that shocking reveal.
Overall, the seductive romance in Condemned to Love complements the gritty mafia life well. Davis is skilled at taking her characters to the brink without letting them fall into an abyss of hopelessness.
