After the worldwide success of House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath, comes the spectacular conclusion to the sensual, action-packed Crescent City trilogy.

Bryce Quinlan is desperate to return to Midgard after unexpectedly seeing life on a another planet. Her home, her loved ones, and her soulmate are all in Midgard. She’ll need all her wits about her while she’s lost in this foreign land. When she doesn’t know who to trust, that’s no small achievement.

There have been worse situations in which Hunt Athala has found himself, but this one seems particularly dire. After only a few months of having his every wish granted, he is back in the Asterisk dungeons, without his freedom or any idea of what happened to Bryce. He wants so badly to assist her, but his hands are tied until he is freed from the Asterisk control.

Sarah J. Maas’s Crescent City trilogy hits new heights in this seductive, thrilling sequel to the #1 bestsellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath. The fate of the planet rests on Bryce and Hunt’s shoulders.

House of Flame and Shadow Book Summary

Even though I have just approximately 100th pages left to read in house of sky and breath, I’m going to make some bold claims regarding the next (and hopefully not final) installment in the Crescent City saga,!!!Hoe Ab AND Ho Sab SPOILER ALERT!!!

Let’s start with the book’s title and jacket. House of Flame and Shadow is definitely the title. House of Many Waters is another possible title, but I think SJM will remain with the “House of” format she’s established for this series. I haven’t given much thought to the cover art, but given that How Ab had the sort of colours you’d expect Earth and Blood to be, I’m guessing that greys, oranges, and yellows will predominate. It’s only right that SJM and her cover artists adhere to this standard like they did with Ho Sab. If How Ab featured Bryce, who was only halfway a member of the House of Earth and Blood, and Ho Sab featured Hunt, who is a member of the House of Sky and Breath, then I’m guessing that a member of the House of Flame and Shadow will be featured, possibly even Queen Hypoxia, though I can’t be certain of that.

Now we go to the narrative itself. Considering the profound fear she harboured regarding assuming the role of an authentic Fae princess, I am uncertain about the likelihood of Bryce and Hunt’s triumph in their endeavour to dismantle the Asteri (if this outcome was clearly indicated by the conclusion of House of Sky and Breath, it would have been prudent for me to complete the aforementioned book prior to formulating any conjectures). Nevertheless, I am inclined to believe that the Autumn King will be deposed and Ruhn will no longer retain his regal position.

Even though surprises from Bryce (and SJM) are possible and do occur, it seems highly unlikely that Bryce would give up her independence in exchange for being held accountable for the deeds of thousands of beings she doesn’t know or care about.

That’s all I can think of for now, but I do think we should pay attention to the cover of House of Flame and Shadows, as in both books, the cover betrayed the resolution we hadn’t yet learned about.
