About The Author Jane B. Reece

Born in the United States on April 15, 1944, Jane B. Reece works as a scientist and educator. Campbell/Reece Biology, co-written with American scientist Neil Campbell, is required reading at several universities.[1]

In addition to his undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard, Reece holds master’s and doctoral degrees in microbiology and bacteriology from Rutgers and Berkeley, respectively. The RecE mechanism of genetic combination in Escherichia coli was the topic of her dissertation for her doctorate. Following completion of her PhD studies, she conducted postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley before obtaining a research position with tenure at Stanford University. The study of bacterial genetic recombination was the primary focus of her research.

Both Middlesex County College (New Jersey) and Queensborough Community College (New York City) have employed Reece as a professor. Since joining Benjamin Cummings in 1978 as an editor, she has written or co-written a number of textbooks. Her work with W.M. Becker and M.F. Poesie on The World of the Cell, Third Edition, is a highlight.

Uppsala University in Sweden bestowed to her an honorary doctorate that same year (2017).

Campbell Biology Book Summary

The edition of the book that I have is the one published for Australia and New Zealand; unfortunately, Good Reads does not include this specific edition in its database.
Because I was required to study a year’s worth of biology modules as part of my scientific course at the university, I decided to buy this book. The information I’ve gained from this book has proven indispensable.
Things that are included in this book that have been helpful to me include a very detailed table of contents, a glossary (which is one of the sections of the book that I have particularly enjoyed), an index (which is also very detailed and helpful), incredible photos to assist discussions, and of course a very well articulated text to clarify topics.

My professors are the ones who suggested this textbook to me, and it’s the only biology book they’ve ever mentioned recommending because of how well it explains things and how accurate it is.
