The Sweet Valley books by Francine Pascal, an American author born on May 13, 1938. In 1982, her agent Amy Berk Power of Writers House sold the first six books to Bantam Books based on the characters and tales she had created. Ms. Pascal contributed significantly to the first book. After that point, she was responsible for the plots of all subsequent books in the series. Dan Weiss’s packaging company employed ghostwriters and revised their work after the first book was published.

Her brother, Broadway lyricist Michael Stewart (August 1, 1924–September 20, 1987), was married to Ms. Pascal’s late husband, writer John Pascal (July 8, 1932–January 7, 1981).

She currently travels back and forth between New York and a house in the south of France.
