Everyone in the thriving city-state of Castellane, from the most affluent nobility to the most hedonistic outlaws, is on the lookout for more money, more influence, and more fun.
Kel is an abandoned child who was taken from his home and raised as the Sword-Catcher, a body double for the royal heir Prince Conor Aurelian. He was nurtured in the royal household and educated alongside the prince in the art of war and the administration of power. Even though he and Conor are as close as brothers, Kel is aware that he has only one fate: to die for Conor. The future can’t go any other way.
Lin Caster belongs to the Ashkar, a select group of people who retain their magical skills. Lin, a doctor, defies the edict that requires everyone in the city to stay within the walls in order to care for Castellane’s ill and dying. She may be skilled, but she needs access to prohibited information in order to cure her closest friend Mariam.
Lin and Kel meet each other in the aftermath of a botched assassination attempt, and they soon find themselves entangled in the schemes of the enigmatic Ragpicker King, the underworld kingpin of Castellane. He gives them everything that they want, but as they delve further into his underworld of intrigue and darkness, they uncover a web of corruption that stretches from the squalor of Castellane’s alleys to the heights of its palaces. As long-held secrets are revealed, they must wonder: Is it okay to betray someone for the sake of knowledge? Can forbidden love really bring down a monarchy? And will Lin and Kel’s discovery lead to war and global anarchy for their country?
About The Author: Cassandra Clare
As a youngster, Cassandra Clare lived out of her father’s rucksack for a month while on a hike in the Himalayas with her American parents. She was born in Tehran, Iran. Before she was 10, she had already called France, England, and Switzerland home.
Her family travelled about a lot, so she carried a book with her everywhere she went to help her feel at home. She went to high school in Los Angeles, where she entertained her peers by writing novels based on Jane Austen short tales like “The Beautiful Cassandra” (which ultimately inspired her present pen name).
After graduating from college, Cassie split her time between Los Angeles and New York, where she worked for a variety of Hollywood publications and tabloids covering topics such as Brad and Angelina’s vacations and Britney Spears’ fashion mishaps. In 2004, she began writing City of Bones, a young adult book heavily influenced by the metropolitan setting of Manhattan. In 2006, she decided to devote herself to creating fantasy novels since she was sick of writing about Paris Hilton.
Cassie’s “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” short tale was published in a humour fantasy anthology by Baen. Cassie despises working in isolation at home since she is often sidetracked by the antics of her cats and her favourite reality TV programmes. Instead, she frequents nearby coffee shops and restaurants to get her writing done. She finds that having friends around helps her stay on task and meet her deadlines.
Her first book was 2016’s City of Bones. Her newest book is called Sword Catcher.
Sword Catcher Book Summary
Even though I am not a fan of Cassandra Clare’s YA novels, I was fascinated by her new invention outside of the Shadowhunter universe and gave her adult novels a try. Everything I’ve read so far has been fantastic, and I can’t wait to read the remainder of this installment and the rest of the series.
Despite the lack of anything really revolutionary, I was expecting nothing less than a complete immersion in a new world, an understanding of the primary characters, and an excitement for what was to follow in this first part of a huge adult fantasy novel, and I got all of that and more.
