Six of Crows Book Summary

I have been indecisive on my inclination to engage with the literary work titled “Six of Crows.” Approximately one year ago, I initially borrowed the book from the library. However, I ultimately returned it without having read it before to its due date. Subsequently, I recently borrowed the same book once again. Although the narrative appeared intriguing, involving a criminal syndicate orchestrating a heist within a fantastical realm, I harboured reservations over its personal appeal. Nevertheless, there was no necessity for me to be apprehensive. Once the commencement of the activity occurred, it proved to be a stimulating and enjoyable experience that persists without interruption.

However (and this presents a significant challenge for me), I encountered initial difficulties in engaging with the subject matter. It required approximately 100 pages for me to become fully engaged with the narrative, enabling me to read and appreciate it without the need for frequent pauses to contemplate the author’s intended meaning behind various elements. The novel has a deficiency in providing a seamless introduction typically associated with works set in alternative universes. The author’s writing assumes prior familiarity with the subject matter, a logical expectation given that this book is situated inside the same fictional universe as her past literary works. However, due to my lack of familiarity with those literary works, I encountered significant difficulties in comprehending and engaging with the introductory sections of this book.

However, once I overcame this initial hurdle and gained a thorough understanding of the book’s plot, the enjoyment truly commenced. The characters in the narrative were perceived as amiable and charismatic, despite their criminal inclinations and challenging upbringings that necessitated them to make morally ambiguous decisions. An aspect that appears somewhat peculiar is the fact that all the people in the narrative are depicted as teenagers, although their manner of speech and behaviour often evoke an impression of individuals in their thirties. The narrative exhibits a rapid tempo and is replete with intense sequences, maintaining a consistent momentum throughout its progression.

Indeed, once the commencement of enjoyment ensues, it persists without cessation, quite literally. The narrative of the book concludes with a suspenseful event, leaving the reader in a state of uncertainty and anticipation for the subsequent installment. I anticipate engaging with the second book, expecting a more seamless experience due to my familiarity with the fictional world.
