Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes From I AM That

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes on love, God, Life, Spirituality, Death, Consciousness & Awareness. I AM That: Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes and Teachings.

It is always the false desires and worries, false ideals and concepts, and wrong interpersonal interactions that cause you to suffer. You can be rid of sorrow if you abandon the false; truth brings happiness and liberation.

Spiritual and Truth

Wisdom is realising that I am nothing, and love is realising that I am everything, and my life revolves around the two.

Life, Love and Wisdom

When you stop asking for things you don’t need, you’ll get everything you need.

Life

Life ceases to be a task and becomes natural and simple, in itself a pleasure, once you realise that the road is the objective and that you are always on the road, not to reach a goal, but to appreciate its beauty and wisdom.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

‘I am everything,’ says love. ‘I am nothing,’ says wisdom. My life revolves around these two.

I AM That

Your expectation of something special and dramatic, of a spectacular eruption, is only obstructing and postponing your Self Realization. You should not expect an explosion because one already occurred at the time of your birth, when you recognised yourself as Being-Knowing-Feeling. You’re making only one mistake: you’re confusing the inner with the outer and the outer with the inner. You take what is inside you to be outside you, and what is outside you to be inside you. Although your intellect and feelings are external, you consider them to be personal. The world appears objective to you, but it is entirely a projection of your mind. That is the fundamental misunderstanding, and no new explosion will clear it up! It’s up to you to think your way out of it. There isn’t any other option.

Talk With Nisargadatta Maharaj, I AM That, Reality, Self-realization

All you need is a calm mind. Once your mind is tranquil, everything else will fall into place. Self-awareness affects mental changes in the same way as the rising light affects the environment. Inner energies awaken in the light of calm and steady self-awareness and create miracles without any effort on your behalf.

Nisargadatta Maharaj

You only want to be happy. All of your aspirations, no matter what they are, are a yearning for happiness. Basically, you wish yourself well…desire isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s life itself, the desire to expand one’s horizons of knowledge and experience. It is your decisions that are incorrect. To believe that something as insignificant as food, sex, power, or fame can make you happy is to deceive oneself. Only anything as big and profound as your true self can completely and permanently bring you joy.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Make no attempt to comprehend! If you do not misinterpret, it is sufficient.

Quotes of Nisargadatta Maharaj

The awareness in you and the consciousness in me, ostensibly two but truly one, want unification, which is love.

Awareness and Consciousness

Love is not picky, but want is. There are no strangers in love. When the centre of selfishness is no longer present, all wants for pleasure and fears of pain fade away; one is no longer engaged in happiness; instead, there is pure intensity, inexhaustible energy, and the ecstasy of giving from an eternal source.

Desire, love, I AM That Talks with Nisargadatta Maharaj

The gulf is created by the intellect, and it is crossed by the heart.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

Nothing ever goes wrong in this house.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

Everything you require is already within you; all you have to do now is approach yourself with regard and compassion. Self-loathing and self-doubt are both grave faults. Your persistent flight from pain and pursuit of pleasure is a sign of love you have for yourself; all I ask is that you perfect your love for yourself. Don’t deny yourself anything; glue infinity and eternity to yourself and learn that you don’t need them; you are beyond.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

Wisdom informs me that I am worthless. I am everything, says love. And my life revolves around the two.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

You may die a hundred times and still be in mental anguish. You can either keep your body and die only in your mind, or you may keep your body and die only in your mind. Wisdom emerges from the death of the mind.

Death, Mind, Suffering, Wisdom

Absolute perfection exists right now, not in the distant future. Right now, the secret is in action. Your actions are the ones that make you oblivious to yourself. Ignore who you think you are and act as though you are perfectly perfect, whatever your definition of perfection is. All you need is a little bit of bravery.

Courage, Action, Perfection

Whatever occurs to you, it happens because of you; you are the creator, enjoyer, and destroyer of all you see.

I AM That Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

As you observe your mind, you become aware of yourself as the observer. You realise yourself like the light behind the observer when you stand motionless and merely watch. The source of light is dim, and the source of wisdom is unknown. That is the only source. Return to that source and remain there.

Talk With Nisargadatta Maharaj: I AM That

It is necessary to have knowledge about things in order to cope with them. You need empathy and insight to deal with people. You don’t need anything to cope with yourself. Don’t deviate from what you’re mindful of being.

I AM That Quotes: Being, Inspirational, Self

No such thing as a person exists. There are just constraints and restrictions. The aggregate of these determines who a person is. When you know who you are, you think you know who you are. You never know who you are, though. The individual only appears to be, just as the space within the pot appears to have the pot’s shape, volume, and fragrance. Recognize that you are not who you think you are. Fight with everything you’ve got against the notion that you’re a nameable and describable person. You’re not one of them. Refrain from categorising yourself as this or that. There is no other way out of the suffering you have created for yourself by accepting things without question. Suffering is a signal that something has to be looked at, and every pain requires investigation. Don’t be too sluggish to consider things.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes From I AM That

It has nothing to do with putting up any effort. Simply turn away from the thoughts and stare between them rather than at them. When you move through a throng, you don’t fight every man you see; instead, you make your path through them. You invite a fight when you fight. When you don’t resist, though, you won’t face any opposition. You’re out of the game if you refuse to play.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

Truth is not a prize for good behaviour or for passing certain criteria. It is impossible to achieve. It is the primordial, unborn, and old source of everything. Because you are, you are qualified. You don’t have to earn truth. It’s all yours…. Be still and quiet.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes on inspirational, meditation, truth.

There will always be times when you feel empty and alienated. Such moments are highly desirable because they indicate that the spirit has thrown its moorings and is sailing to unknown shores. When the old has passed and the new has not yet arrived, this is detachment. The situation may be uncomfortable if you are afraid, but there is nothing to be afraid of. Remember the rule: whatever you come across, go above and above.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

Consistent faith is more powerful than fate. Destiny is the outcome of a variety of factors, the most of which are unintentional, and is thus loosely woven. It will be easily conquered with confidence and positive hope.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

You’ve spent so much time and effort creating a prison for yourself. Now spend the same amount of money destroying it. In truth, deconstruction is simple because the false vanishes when revealed.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

If you wish to discover your inner nature, you must constantly think about yourself until the secret of your being is disclosed.

Faith, Confidence, Destiny

Everything you require is already within you; all you have to do now is approach yourself with regard and compassion. Self-disgust and self-condemnation are grave errors. Your persistent flight from pain and pursuit of pleasure is a sign of love you have for yourself; all I ask is that you perfect your love for yourself. Give yourself infinity and eternity and you will learn that you do not require them; you are beyond.

Life, Spiritual

Always remember that whatever you forget is not the reality.

Dialogues with a Realized Master from I Am That

Save all of your energy and time for tearing down the barrier your mind has constructed around you.

I AM That: Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

All I ask is that you perfect your love for yourself.

Self Love

That is wisdom when I look inside and understand that I am nothing. Love is when I glance outside and see that I am everything. And my existence revolves around these two.

Love, Life

All you need is a calm mind.

Mind

I let my human nature take its course as it sees fit. I continue to be who I am.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

All of your issues will be solved if you exist outside of this body of birth and death. Because you believe you were born to die, they exist. Be free by deceiving yourself. You are not a human being.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes on inspirational

Love tells me I am everything, but wisdom tells me I am nothing. My life revolves around these two.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes on Love

Cooperate with your fate, rather than fighting it or thwarting it. Allow it to take care of itself.

Nisargadatta Maharaj on Self

I can’t help but think of you as myself. It’s in the nature of love to see no distinctions.

Love

It’s entirely up to you. The world exists because you agreed to it. Remove your faith in its actuality, and it will vanish like a dream. Mountains can be brought down by time; much more so by you, the eternal wellspring of time. There can be no time without memory and expectancy.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj: I AM That

I saw myself as I am: free, in the solitude of my consciousness.

Myself, Spiritual

Unpredictability and the unexpected are real.

Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes

Learn to live a life free of self-consciousness. For this, you must recognise your true self as unstoppable, brave, and unstoppable. You begin to dismiss your desires and concerns, notions and ideas, and live just by truth once you know with perfect conviction that nothing can harm you.

Consciousness, life, Spiritual

Your high view of me is solely yours. You have the ability to update it at any time. Why give opinions, including your own, such weight?

Nisargadatta Maharaj

Happiness is never your own; it is found in the absence of the ‘I.’ It is out of your reach; all you have to do is reach out beyond yourself to find it.

Happiness, Self

You are emancipated even if you only have contact with pure mind for a brief moment.

Nisargadatta Maharaj on Mind

Nothing is all there is when you dig deep inside. There is no such thing as ‘I am.’ The Absolute blends with the ‘I am.’

I AM That Quotes of Nisargadatta Maharaj

An child is aware of its own body, but not of the distinctions made by it. It’s just being aware and content. After all, that was the reason it was created. The pleasure of being is the most basic type of self-love, which develops into self-love. Be as though you’re a baby, with nothing between you and your true self. The steady hum of psychic life has vanished. The self observes the body in great silence. It’s like a blank sheet of paper on which nothing has been written yet. Rather than attempting to be this or that, be content with who you are.

Talk with Nisargadatta Maharaj: I AM That

And spirituality, or what you term “religion,” is really about realising that you don’t need anything since you are a part of the whole, or reality. Refusal and rejection are the paths back to oneself. Working in the world is difficult; avoiding all unneeded work is even more difficult.

Spirituality, Life

Your perceptions of oneself shift from day to day and moment to moment. Your self-image is the most malleable aspect of your personality. It’s completely exposed, and it’s at the mercy of a passerby. When you experience a bereavement, a job loss, or an insult, your picture of yourself, which you refer to as your person, alters dramatically. To figure out who you are, you must first figure out who you aren’t. And to know what you aren’t, you must keep a close eye on yourself, rejecting anything that contradicts the core fact: “I am.” We have a habit of thinking, “I am this.” Separate the “I am” from “this” or “that” and try to feel what it is to be “this” or “that” without being “this” or “that.” All of our habits work against us, and resisting them might be difficult at times, but having a clear knowledge can help a lot. The sooner you comprehend that you can only be described in negative terms on a mental level, the sooner you will reach the conclusion of your search and discover your infinite being. Consciousness is a powerful tool. Recognize what needs to be done, and it will be completed. All you have to do now is stay vigilant – and quiet. When you arrive at your goal and understand your true nature, your presence becomes a benefit to everyone. You may not realise it, and neither will the rest of the world, but help is available. All enjoyment stems from a state of awareness. The more conscious we are, the greater the joy. Acceptance of suffering, non-resistance, courage, and endurance are all ways to tap into deep and lasting sources of true happiness and bliss.

I AM That Quotes of Nisargadatta Maharaj

You can try to figure out how something happens, but you can’t figure out why something happens the way it does. Because the universe is what it is, a thing is what it is. The time between the start of ‘I am’ (birth or awakening) and the end of it (death or deep sleep) is referred to as ‘time.’ The river of life flows between the banks of agony and pleasure. It only becomes a problem when the mind refuses to flow with life and becomes trapped at the banks. By flowing with life, I mean accepting what comes and letting go of what goes. You are not what occurs, but you are to whom it happens, so don’t wish for it, don’t be afraid of it, and just observe it as it happens. You are not, in the end, even the observer. You are the ultimate potentiality, and all-encompassing consciousness is the embodiment and expression of that potentiality. The abyss is created by the mind. It is crossed by the heart.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Quotes: I AM That

Talks With Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

You appear to be advising me to be egoistically self-centered. Is it necessary for me to give up even my interest in other people?

Maharaj: Your care for others is egoistic, self-serving, and self-centered. Others are only interesting to you in the sense that they improve or ennoble your own picture of yourself. And the pinnacle of selfishness is solely caring about one’s own body’s safety, maintenance, and multiplication. By body, I mean everything that has to do with your name and shape, such as your family, tribe, country, race, and so on. It is selfish to be attached to one’s name and shape. A man who understands that he is neither body nor mind can’t be selfish since he doesn’t have anything to be greedy about. Or, to put it another way, he is equally’selfish’ on behalf of everyone he meets; their well-being is his own. The feeling of ‘I am the world, the world is myself’ develops over time; once it is established, there is no manner of being selfish. To be selfish is to seek, acquire, and accumulate for the sake of a part rather than the total.

However, I don’t understand how something can exist without a reason.

When I say something is without a cause, I mean that it can exist without a specific reason. You couldn’t have been born without the sun and the earth, but you couldn’t have been born without your own mother. Even still, without your personal wish to be born, none of them could have resulted in your birth. Desire is the one who gives birth, names and forms. The desirable is something that is imagined and desired, and it manifests as something tangible or conceivable. The universe in which we live, our personal reality, is so created. We see the real world through the net of our desires, which are separated into pleasure and pain, right and wrong, inner and outward. You must go beyond the net to perceive the cosmos as it is. It’s not difficult to do so because the net is riddled with holes.

What exactly do you mean when you say “holes”? And where do you look for them?

Take a look at the net and its various inconsistencies. At each step, you do and undo. You want peace, love, and happiness, but you strive hard to bring suffering, hatred, and violence into the world. You want to live a long time and eat a lot of food, but you also want to befriend and exploit people. Consider your net to be made up of such inconsistencies, and eliminate them — just noticing them will make them disappear.

Is it then impossible to do meaningful action?

All I’m saying is that consciousness encompasses everything. Everything is possible in consciousness. In your reality, you can have causes if you want them. Another person might be satisfied with a single cause: God’s will. The notion of ‘I am’ is the primary reason.
