I’m living with the hot, grumpy goaltender I had a high school crush on.

I’ve had it with heartbreak after my ex dashed my hopes of making it big in the music business. Assisting an NHL player should have been a cakewalk, but dealing with Jamie Streicher has been anything but simple. He is quite attractive, yet he is a cranky jerk that despises me. This guy is full of himself. Even if he insists I move in with him, I have no difficulty keeping things on a professional level.

Jamie may appear gruff at first glance, but he actually has a soft and protective side.

As soon as Jamie found out how horrible my ex was in bed, his competitive nature erupted, and from then on, he has been nothing but supportive and doting. That old excitement I had for songwriting? It has returned, and I am once again composing music. I’m starting to develop feelings for him after donning his jersey at games, getting drunk at team parties, and taking the stage once more.

Perhaps it would be worth it if he broke my heart.

Behind the Net is a gloomy-happy ending professional hockey romance. You don’t have to start with this book to enjoy the Vancouver Storm series.

About The Author Stephanie Archer

Stephanie’s romantic comedies are sassy and amusing. Her stories always have happy endings and are full of witty banter and strong female characters who refuse to give in. It’s Vancouver, Canada, where she resides.

Behind the Net Book Summary

To Stephanie, with appreciation for the ARC in exchange for an evaluation.

I’ve read Stephanie Archer’s Queen’s Cove trilogy (which, by the way, you should also read if you haven’t already). I was thrilled when I learned that she was exploring the burgeoning genre of hockey-themed romance. Despite my distaste for the sport, I’d gladly consume a hockey romance.

The situation was the same behind the net. Some of my favourite literary clichés are present in this book, such as roommates, grumpy/sunshine, and spice coaching. Jamie and Pippa’s reunion was the most delightful cup of tea I’ve ever had, as they had known each other in high school but hadn’t seen each other again until they were grownups. That’s fantastic, and I could spend all day reading it. Besides Jamie, I think Pippa is the best Female Main Character (FMC) I’ve read about this year. I mean, that guy. The man is kind, witty, possessive, and has a potty mouth; where can I find him in real life? Red notes are highlighted all over my Kindle.

If you’re into hockey romances, you should pick up this novel when it comes out this week. No, there won’t be a breakup in the third act.
